Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) : GLASGOW BOAT BUILDER ULTIMATE BOATS TO UNVEIL TWO NEW RECYCLABLE WORKBOATS AT SEAWORK

Glasgow-based Ultimate Boats is set to display its latest marine innovations, the 7.5m Coastal C-Class and 11.5m Tactical T-Class vessels, at the upcoming Seawork trade fair in Southampton from June 13-15. These high-performance workboats, crafted from the revolutionary DANUTM composite material, mark a significant advancement in sustainable boat building by replacing traditional fiberglass, a material known for its environmental challenges.

The Tactical T-Class vessel, named ‘Lightning’, will be showcased in partnership with Hampshire Police, demonstrating the practical application and robust capabilities of these vessels in law enforcement. Both the C-Class and T-Class vessels are part of a broader strategy by Ultimate Boats to cater to the growing demand for greener marine solutions from naval, law enforcement, and offshore operators.

Shane Mugan, owner of Ultimate Boats, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, highlighting DANUTM’s role in preventing thousands of boats from ending up in landfills. This material not only offers a recyclable alternative but also supports the industry’s transition to a circular economy, capable of being reused across generations.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the DANUTM technology and ExoHullTM design—developed from hydrodynamic principles initially used in the XB-70 Valkyrie supersonic bomber—allow these vessels to move more efficiently and stably in the water, reducing fuel costs and emissions. Ultimate Boats is also exploring future advancements such as autonomous and electric propulsion to further enhance the sustainability of their range.

With a full order book and plans to expand its workforce to 300 within five years, Ultimate Boats is making significant strides in transforming boat building and promoting sustainable practices within the maritime industry. The company’s achievements have been recognized with its Police Scotland boat being named Patrol Boat of the Year and its nomination for an innovation award at the Maritime UK Awards.
